Free Entry to Guggenheim on Oct 21st!

Just learned today that on Oct 21st the Guggenheim won't be charging entry fees in celebration of their 50th anniversary. I personally LOVE visiting it and think it's worth a couple hours! Though not necessarily photography related (not directly at least).

Sally Mann Show at the Gagosian Gallery

Sally Mann has returned to photographing her family, this time her husband Larry, in her newest series Proud Flesh. She is still using the wet plate collodion process. The Financial Times weekend art section gave the show an excellent and intriguing review "the hum of mortality has grown louder, the body bears the certainty of its own dissolution, and Mann claims her place as photogrpahy's pre-eminent poet of fragility." - Ariella Budick

I am going to try to fit this into my schedule. Details about the show at the Gagosian are below:

NYMOMA

Currently at the New York Museum of Modern Art is Compass in Hand: Selections from the Judith Rothschild Foundation Contemporary Drawings Collection, a large selection of works on paper. The variety of works considered to be drawings, whether created with traditional media or unconventional media, is very illuminating. Here, the breadth of methods and materials is the focus rather than the specific qualities of any individual pieces; photography, collage, and mixed media are on display. This exhibition will continue until January 4.
